The first four verses of Chapter 10 are a continuation of chapter nine. Evil is reported again, new sins are exposed and is given notice of the impending trial. Injustice and the theft of the poor, the orphans, the widows, will bring the day of punishment and desolation. There will be no one to run to get help or where to drop their wealth. The presence of the Lord in their midst had been his "glory" (Isaiah 10:3). Now He would "fly like bird" (Hosea 9:11). Would they suffer desolation, shame and captivity (Isaiah 10:3).
Assiria
The trial of Assyria (10:5-19)
The greatest glory of the Lord's people is the privilege of your presence in the middle of it. Is the secret blessing of power in testimony, force against the enemy. At the same time, their presence is intensely solemn. It is designed to allow us to live in your fear, not fear that amazes us with your presence, but afraid to grieve the Holy Spirit. The lack of understanding this leads to spiritual decline, resulting in a mere form of Godliness without the power, or manifested wickedness. So it was in Israel.
Isaiah 10:5-19 gives us a striking example of how God has used gentílicas Nations to punish his people, allowing these Nations to achieve a high degree of domain. For most of them there was a pageantry of pride for what they considered to be their own achievements, which brought them in return the judgments of the Lord.
Was the case of Assyria, "the rod of his wrath, because the indignation of God it's like catchphrase on your hands", used against their "unholy nation", "people of his wrath." Verses 10:7-11, 13 and 14 recount his boasting and proud, their determination to establish a universal empire. So it has been with recent tyrants and their schemes. Will also be with the man of sin, you're going to get a greater measure of success that all of his predecessors.
What an axe or stick is for who the handles, so is a mere man to God Almighty that the uses. A stick or rod not used can not move or lift who wields (Isaiah 10:15). When therefore the Lord had completed "His whole work upon Mount Zion and on Jerusalem," and purged their abominations, he punished "the good heart of the King of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks" (see Habakkuk 1:11). This also applies to the final events of the season present.
Divine titles in Isaiah 10:16 are significant. "The Lord" (Ha-Adon) is used by Isaiah always in relation to the power exercised judicial and criminal. Adonai Sabaote, "the Lord of hosts," is used here only and indicates their absolute sovereignty.
The fat men of Assyria will be definhados. Under the glory of which boasted, God, as "the light of Israel" (Isaiah 10:17) and its holy would be a consuming fire, fryin' my and consuming his thorns and his Briers, namely, its leaders (as well as with Israel, Isaiah 9:18). The armed forces, "the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, would be" consumed "from the soul to the body", i.e., internally and externally, and therefore "totally", that is, the whole army would be destroyed.
The verse 19 portrays how little will be left of the Assyrian army to March on Jerusalem: so few men that a boy can easily count them.
The return of the remnant of Israel (10:20 -34)
On the other hand, the remnant of Israel no longer support on those proved to be their enemies, such as Assyria that smote them, but in the Lord, the Holy one of Israel, the God (see 2 Chronicles 30:6). Isaiah 10:22 makes it clear that here again (how many times in the prophecies of the old testament) the passage points not only for immediate compliance, as in the case of the Assyrian invasion, but covers future times.
The Apostle Paul in his letter to the Romans (9:27) applies to Isaiah 23, 10:22 and a long future for us when Israel, passing through the great tribulation, will be reduced to a mere remnant, that will be the core of the redeemed nation at the beginning of the Millennium. Thus the prophecy relates to the future of the "day of the Lord".
The remainder of the chapter is busy with an estimate of the actual details of the invasion by Assyria and the defeat of the attacker. Based on this, the people of God should not be afraid of him. The rod needs to be used, but the people who use them will also be hurt by it. So it was with the Egypt (verses 24 and 26). Assyria and Egypt are mentioned again, together, in Isaiah 52:4.
In verse 27, the statement " the yoke be will be broken because of fat "it's a metaphor suggesting that the bull's neck is so fat that the yoke does not give back. So Israel would grow, become stronger and assert his freedom.
The entire scene foreshadows the destruction of the Antichrist.

Judgment on Arrogant Assyria
5 "Woe to Assyria, the rod of My anger And the staff in whose hand is My indignation.
6 I will send him against an ungodly nation, And against the people of My wrath I will give him charge, To seize the spoil, to take the prey, And to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
7 Yet he does not mean so, Nor does his heart think so; But it is in his heart to destroy, And cut off not a few nations.
8 For he says, 'Are not my princes altogether kings?
9 Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus?
10 As my hand has found the kingdoms of the idols, Whose carved images excelled those of Jerusalem and Samaria,
11 As I have done to Samaria and her idols, Shall I not do also to Jerusalem and her idols?' "
12 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Lord has performed all His work on Mount Zion and on Jerusalem, that He will say, "I will punish the fruit of the arrogant heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his haughty looks."
13 For he says: "By the strength of my hand I have done it, And by my wisdom, for I am prudent; Also I have removed the boundaries of the people, And have robbed their treasuries; So I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man.
14 My hand has found like a nest the riches of the people, And as one gathers eggs that are left, I have gathered all the earth; And there was no one who moved his wing, Nor opened his mouth with even a peep."
15 Shall the ax boast itself against him who chops with it? Or shall the saw exalt itself against him who saws with it? As if a rod could wield itself against those who lift it up, Or as if a staff could lift up, as if it were not wood!
16 Therefore the Lord, the Lord of hosts, Will send leanness among his fat ones; And under his glory He will kindle a burning Like the burning of a fire.
17 So the Light of Israel will be for a fire, And his Holy One for a flame; It will burn and devour His thorns and his briers in one day.
18 And it will consume the glory of his forest and of his fruitful field, Both soul and body; And they will be as when a sick man wastes away.
19 Then the rest of the trees of his forest Will be so few in number That a child may write them.
The Remnant of Israel Will Return
20 And it shall come to pass in that day That the remnant of Israel, And such as have escaped of the house of Jacob, Will never again depend on him who defeated them, But will depend on the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
21 The remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, To the Mighty God.
22 For though your people, O Israel, be as the sand of the sea, A remnant of them will return; The destruction decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
23 For the Lord GOD of hosts Will make a determined end In the midst of all the land.
24 Therefore thus says the Lord GOD of hosts: "O My people, who dwell in Zion, do not be afraid of the Assyrian. He shall strike you with a rod and lift up his staff against you, in the manner of Egypt.
25 For yet a very little while and the indignation will cease, as will My anger in their destruction."
26 And the LORD of hosts will stir up a scourge for him like the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb; as His rod was on the sea, so will He lift it up in the manner of Egypt.
27 It shall come to pass in that day That his burden will be taken away from your shoulder, And his yoke from your neck, And the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing oil.
28 He has come to Aiath, He has passed Migron; At Michmash he has attended to his equipment.
29 They have gone along the ridge, They have taken up lodging at Geba. Ramah is afraid, Gibeah of Saul has fled.
30 Lift up your voice, O daughter of Gallim! Cause it to be heard as far as Laish— O poor Anathoth!
31 Madmenah has fled, The inhabitants of Gebim seek refuge.
32 As yet he will remain at Nob that day; He will shake his fist at the mount of the daughter of Zion, The hill of Jerusalem.
33 Behold, the Lord, The LORD of hosts, Will lop off the bough with terror; Those of high stature will be hewn down, And the haughty will be humbled.
34 He will cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, And Lebanon will fall by the Mighty One.
